$2.00/day Food Challenge Post #5

Okay, so it's officially on. I started AFTER breakfast b/c I had a few leftovers that I wanted to finish...I feel bad deliberately throwing out food if it's because of a silly food contest.

There really aren't many rules to this challenge but I'll lay them out as best I can:

1. You may only eat 2 dollars worth of food per day. Grocery cost is irrelevant so if you want to get the beef tenderloin, feel free...however, you'll only get two or three bites and nothing else for the rest of the day.

2. There is a rollover effect so if you only eat $1.50 today, you can eat $2.50 tomorrow...I plan on taking advantage of this rule.

3. We don't count things like cooking oil into the food cost. However, pretty much everything else is fair game. There are other exceptions such as George's protein shakes and my cup of coffee when I'm studying at the coffee shop...I don't remember any other exceptions but I'll let you know if there are.

That's about it. Pretty simple. I have to say, I'm having a blast so far. I really feel like I'm being forced into being a better cook...I'm certainly exploring culinary avenues that I wouldn't have considered otherwise. I'll put up a few posts later today so you can see how things have changed...I'll also be putting up a new guest blogger post! Exciting stuff ahead!

edit: A few more exceptions. Alcohol does not count towards the $2.00 limit. Neither do mints nor gum.

The contest ends when one of us exceeds the daily limit or when we leave for x-mas break.

george is cheating w/ his protein shakes. it's also not fair that he is eating free food at supermarkets.

You know, I just gave a little bit more thought to the costco freebies...Free food should mean that anyone off the street can take advantage of the offer. At Costco, you have to pay for membership which allows you access to the samples. Not really free when you look at it that way, yes?
